This post walks through the Five Ws to clarify my thinking about this blog.

Who will be writing this blog?
This guy! Andrew Marder. I like computers, data, statistics, software, graphs, reproducible research, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I use AI to proofread my posts. But, for the most part, all the writing on this blog will be crafted by this one human artisan.

What will this blog be about?
Tough question. I have many interests. I plan to write about whatever rabbit holes I find myself exploring. Recently, I’ve been writing a lot about tech stuff. I value data privacy, so I’ve moved from Gmail to Proton Mail and from Google Photos to Immich. Writing has helped refine my approaches to using these tools.

When will I be writing?
Ideally, I’d like to publish one post a week. I will never email you more than once a week. If I write multiple posts in a week, I’ll send a single email describing all the posts. I want to be respectful of your inbox.

Where will I be writing?
All posts will be published right here on andrewmarder.net. Let me know if you have any tips on where I should advertise my writing. I’ve had some success with posts gaining traction on Hacker News and Reddit. I’ve had a hard time breaking through on Bluesky.

Why am I writing?
Writing helps me clarify my thoughts. Practice helps me become a better writer. Writing in public is a great way to learn new things - feedback from readers is incredibly helpful.

How am I writing?
I like writing in Markdown. I commit my Markdown files to this GitHub repository. When I update the
sourcebranch in that repository, Cloudflare Pages builds my site and deploys it to the web. Overall, I like this process. When I’m working on a post, I can focus primarily on the content (plain text).
Please share any comments or questions you may have. It will help clarify my thoughts on this blog!
